About the Journal

African Journal of Health and Medical Sciences (AFJHMS) (formerly known as Somali Journal of Medicine and Health Sciences),  is an international peer-reviewed, open-access journal published biannually by Jamhuriya University of Science and Technology (JUST), Mogadishu, Somalia. AFJHMS accepts original research articles, review articles and short communications covering in the areas related to health and medical sciences.

The AFJHMS aims to provide a forum for researchers and professionals in the field of health and medical sciences to share and discuss their quality researches. The AFJHMS invites students, researchers, and all academic professionals to submit their quality manuscripts in the scope of health and medical sciences including biomedical sciences, basic sciences, internal medicine, surgery, obstetric, pediatrics, and public health.

The submitted manuscripts shall be original, not simultaneously submitted to publish another journal and should be written in English. Every submitted manuscript will be assessed by the editorial office to determine that the submitted manuscript is within the scope of the journal, the data presented are original and good quality before it is assigned to at least two independent peer reviewers specializing in the field.

The AFJHMS adheres to the highest ethical and transparency standards established by leading organisations in scholarly publishing. Its editorial and publishing procedures align with the guidance of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), the Council of Science Editors (CSE), the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the European Association of Science Editors (EASE), and the National Information Standards Organization (NISO). Furthermore, the journal demonstrates its commitment to transparency by fully embracing the Best Practices in Scholarly Publication (doaj.org/bestpractice) Standards established by the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ).
